Howard MS: “7 Habits” Meet PBIS

If your school is looking to merge PBIS with another effort (like we are), then come hear about our journey. We have had an exciting adventure with PBIS and recently became a Leader In Me (7 Habits of Highly Effective People) school as well. While both are intended to help support students with character development and nurturing the social-emotional learning, what do you do when students and staff struggle to implement both? This presentation will provide participants with a first-hand account of how PBIS can be effectively implemented at the middle school level in a Title I school. Included in the presentation will be a timeline recount of our own story, suggestions for changing the culture of the school, and success stories about easily implementable acknowledgments. You will walk away with tools/ideas that you can readily use at your own school. Our school was among the first (of 15) schools designated as Distinguished for our work with PBIS. Now we are on the journey to becoming a “Lighthouse” school with Leader In Me. Is it possible to do both effectively?
